Have you got a new pup who’s never been out of your care for longer than a day? Maybe you’ve always been lucky enough to take your pooch with you on holidays, but for some reason can’t this time? Either way, booking your dog in for their very first pet resort vacay can be a bit stressful for both parties.
There are, however, a few things you can do that will make things easier for you when dropping them off, and help them have a pleasant experience after you leave. Here are the ones we think are most important:
Test their social interactions –
Social interactions are one of the most important parts of your dog’s life. After all, there’s no fun in running around a backyard by yourself all day long! If your dog has never been around other animals before, it’s important to test their social interactions before booking them in for a pet resort stay. You can do this by simply taking them for a walk to the local dog park and seeing how they interact/play with the other dogs there.
Treat them to some training –
Stemming on from the previous point, if your dog reacts particularly badly to other dogs or other humans, it might be an idea to book them in for some training before you go away. This will give them the skills they need to happily interact with their fellow four-legged friends, thus making their pet resort vacay a more comfortable experience overall!
At Pet Resorts Australia we are delighted to announce that our training partner, Canine Evolution offers a range of services to suit your training requirements. Contact them to find out more and take your dog from ruff to refined!Â
Take them on car trips with you –
If the only time your dog has been in a car with you was when you initially adopted/purchased/rescued them, it might be possible that they’ve associated your car with separation in some way. Taking them on short car trips — to friends’ houses or for a trip to the beach, etc. — will help remove this fear and make them feel less anxious on the drive to and from the resort.
Don’t have time to drive your dog out to us? Why not take advantage of our Pet Taxi from participating vets? Or, we can even arrange our Pet Taxi to pick up your beloved pet from your front door!
Make sure their vaccinations are up to date –
A slightly different, yet equally as important measure to take before bringing your dog out to us, is to make sure they’re up to date with all of their medical vaccinations.
